To make powerloom owners and workers aware of Union ministry of textiles’ PowerTex schemes, a seminar was organized by textile commissioner’s regional office at Surana Palace on Friday.

Power minister Paras Jain was the chief guest and MLA Mohan Yadav special guest. Guests urged beneficiaries to reap utmost advantage of schemes to develop their business.

Key speakers at the seminar included textile committee Indore’s assistant director CS Singh and officer in-charge Pranav Parashar.

The Textile Ministry is reviewing the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) after a report found that the scheme failed to achieve its objectives and special purpose vehicles of the parks violated norms as non-textiles units were operating from inside the parks. Also there are many loopholes in the scheme which needs to be rectified, according to a senior Textiles Ministry official.

Minister of State(Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangawar in a reply during question hour in the Lok Sabha informed today that government has launched Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme(TUFS), Schemes for the development of the Powerloom sector, Schemes for Technical textiles, Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks(SITP) and Integrated Skill Development Scheme.

He said that the production of textiles and garments was predominantly in the private sector. Therefore, the government does not prescribe targets for the textile and garment Industry.

Only some land-levelling activities of the proposed textile park under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), like the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the compound wall and drainage construction has been carried out while all other construction activities have come to a halt due to the Handloom and Textile Department officials allegedly not releasing the share of the State government funds.

The Ministry of Textiles, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’, has organised a two-day national workshop in Surat today. The workshop is aimed to help Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) more effective.

SITP wants to fill infrastructure gap in the textiles and apparel industry. It seeks to do this by encouraging the industry to set up greenfield industrial parks with partial capital grant support from the ministry.

Gujarat textile industry taking maximum benefit from the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS). In TUFS under 15 percent MMS, 90 percent of the application were received from Gujarat, stated Kiran Soni Gupta, IAS, Textile Commissioner at the meeting held at the Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association (ATIRA) between the Textile Commissioner and textile industry stakeholders on Tuesday.
