Bivoltine silk likely to see rise in production by 19pc in 2017-18

The Ministry of Textiles has provided an official statement of rise in production of bivotine silk in the country in 2017-18. Registering an increase of 19 percent the production may rise to around 6,200 million tonnes (MT) in 2017-18 as compared to 5,266 MT a year ago.

The ministry said Muga silk has recorded highest ever production of 170 MT and has acquired a new growth momentum. It added that Bivoltine silk production has grown by 105 per cent in the last three years and has enabled substantial import substitution.

To make powerloom owners and workers aware of Union ministry of textiles’ PowerTex schemes, a seminar was organized by textile commissioner’s regional office at Surana Palace on Friday.

Power minister Paras Jain was the chief guest and MLA Mohan Yadav special guest. Guests urged beneficiaries to reap utmost advantage of schemes to develop their business.

Key speakers at the seminar included textile committee Indore’s assistant director CS Singh and officer in-charge Pranav Parashar.

Govt proposes setting up a Hastkala Academy at New Delhi

The government of India has initiated a proposal for setting up a Hastkala Academy at New Delhi under which research work on development of the handicraft sector will be taken up, Parliament was informed today by Textiles Minister Smriti Irani in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

Smriti Irani said that an amended technology upgradation fund scheme (ATUFS) is in place for the textiles industry, which as become effective from January.

The government had initially estimated disbursal of Rs18,000 crore under the Technology Funds Scheme (TUFS) but with the increasing interest from the textile industry and the opportunities that lie ahead government is now looking to disburse textile funds of around Rs 30,000 crore under ATUFS scheme by 2022, said Santosh Kumar Gangwar, union minister of textiles, independent charge on the sidelines of the Make in India event held in Mumbai.

The amount marks a 67% increase in disbursals from its original plan, Gangwar added

Under the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme, 16 percent subsidy for investment in technical textile has been announced by the government as the technical textiles industry is projected to grow at 20 percent year-on-year and the segment’s potential is largely untapped in the country, said Union Minister of State for Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Thursday.

The Centre of Excellence for Industrial Textiles/Home Textiles at PSG College of Technology would have plug-and-play facilities (focus incubation centre) for potential entrepreneurs in technical textiles, Gangwar said.

Govt starts process of settling dues related to blackout and leftout cases

The Indian government initiated the process of settlement of Rs 3,000 crore dues related to some 'blackout and left-out' cases which found no mention in the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (ATUFS) which has come as a big relief for textile sector.

Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) Secretary General Binoy Job said that the quantum of liabilities under the blackout and left-out period cases was around Rs 3,000 crore.
