New textile policy to be announced by TN to add pace to thriving textile sector

The Tamil Nadu State would be soon announcing a new textile policy, making the already successful textile industry a top destination for investment, industry experts said at a seminar at the Global Investors Meet (GIM) on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu - the nation’s largest textile manufacturer would be able to corner a lion’s share of the 15 million new jobs that would be generated, with the Indian textile industry poised to touch US$ 500 billion by 2025.

Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) has signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding) with INSA (Indian National Ship Owners' Association) for transporting cotton through ships. Textile spinning mills in Tamil Nadu to start transport cotton from Gujarat to their units here by ship as the shipping companies have agreed to reduce cost, said T Rajkumar, chairman, SIMA.

Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) Cotton Development and Research Association (CDRA) involved in cotton-seed production and distribution has developed the battery-powered, portable, handheld kapas plucking machine in association with Coimbatore-based Point Industries. The machine is provided with cotton collection bag.

The cotton kappa plucker machine by launched by Chairman of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry Prem Malik in Coimbatore on Friday.

CCI chooses Bangladesh for export of cotton comes through its global tender

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has finally decided to come out with global tender for export of cotton to Bangladesh. CCI chose Bangladesh as the logistics are better and easier to manage either by the sea or roadways. China, the world’s biggest buyer, is importing less of the fibre from this year which has affected Indian export.

China has been the largest importer of Indian cotton over the last three years. According to CCI CMD BK Mishra, the response from Bangladesh has been good and should this sale be successful, CCI has plans to tap Vietnam as well.

Textiles technical institute set up provide training for workers

Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) and PSG Institutions have set up textile technical training institute where they have started offering training courses for fitters. The training institute would be offering short, medium and long-term courses.

Initially, it was offering four days’ training for fitters and it covered all machinery, accessories and equipment.

As the textile industry was facing acute shortage of manpower for mechanical, electrical and electronic maintenance.

TN textile mills start using shipping route for transporting cotton

Textile mills in the State of Tamil Nadu to reduce the cost of transportation for importing cotton from Gujarat have started to use the shipping route, instead of road. The volume this year increased to 2,600 containers till January as against 1,200 containers of cotton transported by sea last year from Gujarat to Tamil. It is expected to touch about 4,400 containers by the end of this month.

Southern India Mills’ Association (Sima) chairman T Rajkumar in his interactive meeting with Union textile commissioner Kiran Soni Gupta on Monday, urged Gupta to expedite the bail-out package to save thousands of small and medium units from becoming non-performing assets.
