China is importing lesser yarn from India, waiting for cotton policy

China is now buying lesser yarn from India, putting Indian export under pressure. Moreover, buyers in China are insisting on lower pricing citing that Indian rupee has strengthened against US$. Over the past one month, Indian yarn export price to China has declined 6- 7 per cent and is hovering around US$3.30 a kg. Until January, China was importing about 110 -120 million kg yarn per month on an average.

The frequent power cuts eating into the businesses of the Tamil Nadu based yarn makers were looking at GCCI as a helping hand to build a yarn cluster in Gujarat and with Karnataka state inviting Coimbatore units to invest. SIMA chief T Rajkumar announced that Tamil Nadu textile industry in Tamil Nadu is not looking to invest elsewhere as the industrial climate in Tamil Nadu ranked on the top in many ways.

PSG-SIMA joins hands to set up textile training institute

Two leading groups of industries joined hands to set up a textile technical training institute in the city. The PSG-SIMA Textile Technical Training Institute, the plaque for which was unveiled by union textile minister K Sambasiva Rao today, would offer a two-year programme for spinning technicians, textile mechatronics and weaving technicians, L Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG Institutions said.

Gudiyattam farmers taking up cotton cultivation as the local cooperatives marketing society supporting them by supplying quality seeds from the South Indian Mills Association (SIMA), Coimbatore, and sells them to the farmers on a non-profit basis. Also their marketing which follows transparency and quick payment has motivated a large number of farmers.

Gudiyattam is emerging as a cotton hub, thanks to the support from the local cooperatives marketing society.
