Indian textile export has registered a positive growth, with a 3.2 percent growth rate in the last three years, this was informed by Minister of State, Textiles, Ajay Tamta at the Lok Sabha and said that the sector is following a positive trend.

India’s textile exports stood at 41.4 billion, shortfall of 3.6bn from the target set of 45 billion for 2014-15. There was a small increase in the overseas sales of handicrafts (17 percent), carpets (15 percent), readymade garments (12 percent), silk (13 percent), and wool and woolen textiles (18 percent), said an official statement.

For the current fiscal, Textiles Ministry has set an exports target of USD 47.5 billion, Textiles Secretary S K Panda said while addressing a press conference.

India’s exports are expected to hit $40 billion in 2013-14 from $34 billion, a rise of 17.6% in the current fiscal from a year before, mainly on higher shipments of garments, cotton yarn, fabrics and man-made fibre but will still miss the target of $43 billion regardless of rupee depreciation, sources said on Thursday.
