With India’s contribution in the technical textiles industry expected to grow at 12% CAGR and reach 1, 16,217 crore by 2017-18, the need for new technologies in garment manufacturing machinery is on a rise. India’s leading trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens - Techtextil India – is here. Running into its sixth edition, the 2017 fair is scheduled to take place from 13 – 15 September in the country’s commercial capital – Mumbai. The show size increased by 50% since the last edition and will have space dedicated to 10 product groups and 12 application areas.

Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, a major cotton production base in Northwest China that produces about 60 percent of China's raw cotton through its intensive processing projects such as garment manufacturing is aiming to create more than 100,000 new textile jobs in 2017.

Yin Xiaodong, an official in the region's textile industry estimated investment in the industry in the past three years exceeded 90 billion yuan, equivalent to the total from 1978 to 2013.

Yoweri Musevni, President of Uganda, stated that their country spends $888 million (Shs 2.991 trillion) on annual textile imports. He added that development of the domestic textile industry is needed in order to reduce the textile imports of the country.

Hence, the President urged the government institutions in the country to buy Ugandan-made products to support the domestic industry and stated that they are of good quality as well as price competitive.

Bangladesh proposes to set up a textile park in Gujarat as it is largely dependent on Indian cotton for its garment industry.

Bangladesh is focusing on Kadi, also known as the 'Cotton City' of India near Ahmedabad for the project and the initial investment is estimated to be Rs 240-300 crore.

The textile park will have spinning units aiming to have cumulative capacity of 1 lakh spindles. Bangladesh has sought around 100 acres of land from the state government for the project.
