Knit Show got off to a vibrant start in Tirupur on Sunday

The 15th edition of the three-day Knit Show, organized by Knit Show Trade Exposition, got off to a vibrant start on Sunday. Around 400 stalls set up at the fair arena and the event attracted participation from Germany, Portugal, Poland, Japan and China apart from the manufacturers within the country showcasing latest models of textile machinery, fabrics, printing inks and apparel accessories.

Surat, the country's biggest manufacturer of man-made fabric has increase its export of (MMF) fabrics to Pakistan by 200 percent since 2011-12, a welcome development considering the hassled relations between the two countries.

According to Synthetic and Rayon Textile Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), total export from India to Pakistan from April 2014 to January 2015 witnessed 20 percent increase at Rs 2,400 crore compared to the same period in previous year . The fabric export to Pakistan is predicted to touch Rs 3,000 crore by the end of this financial year.

Vietnam garment and textile export turnover witnessed 1.2 percent growth in the month of January over the same month last year to reach US$1.9 billion, according to Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association.

The production output of garment and textile products such as fabric and clothes have been on the rise compared to the same period last year as many businesses have got orders to produce until the end of the first quarter this year and even the second quarter to some.

Organic certification made mandatory for finished textile products

Raw cotton export already required certification under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP). It is now required of any finished textile product exported as an organic one such as yarn, fabrics, made-ups and garments as the government has made it mandatory.

R K Dalmia, Chairman, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council said that national standard for organic cotton is a welcome move but the manner in which it is being implemented will create havoc in the organic textile industry and lead to loss of export business.
