New developments in Hong Kong to address daily textile waste

Edwin Keh Yee-man, chief executive of the publicly funded Hong Kong Research Institute for Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), which developed the plant’s recycling system, said the move would put the city’s textiles industry back on the map and boost the “made in Hong Kong” mark. He said that, "We could have opened (this mill) in China, 10 times its current size," Also,"But we decided to do it in Hong Kong to prove two things – that we can solve our local textile waste problem locally, and that in such a small, compact city, sustainable (textile recycling) is feasible."

The response was the publication in 1957 of USTER® STANDARDS, the precursor of USTER® STATISTICS. This listed unevenness data as U% and CV figures for carded and combed yarns, from GGP® test results collated worldwide. For the first time, spinners were able to benchmark their yarn quality against that of other mills, using objective measurements.

Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) Chairman M Senthilkumar thanked the Ministry of Textiles for actively considering the Association plea of selling the cotton only to the actual users and stated that this would bring in stability in the cotton price during the off season.

He expressed gratitude towards Union Ministry of textiles for taking a proactive decision of selling cotton through Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to the actual users consisting of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) inorder to stabilize the cotton price.

Cotton prices have taken a drop during starting months of the season in Pakistan

Pakistan cotton market which witnesses stability or increase in prices especially during the starting months of the season every year, sees the prices taking a drop by up to Rs600 to Rs6,000 this time. Further due to the cutback in lint consumption, prices came under pressure on Wednesday on the cotton market.
 
According to cotton broker, the prices of seed cotton (phutti) have also declined as the prices of cottonseed (Banola) have seen a drop of Rs150, to Rs1,800. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) reduced its spot rate by Rs100, to Rs6,100.
