Bangladesh textile millers have imported machinery worth TK71.19 billion in the fiscal year of 2014-15, a short up by over 40 percent compared to Tk50.63 billion in the last fiscal year of 2013-14 as many millers went for business expansion, said Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) president Tapan Chowdhury speaking a press conference on Tuesday. The rise in machinery imports is attributed to the prevailing political stability.

Sekhani group, Ahmedabad based four decade old textile group involved in processing, dyeing, printing, embroidery and finishing of plain and pattern woven fabrics for apparel and furnishing sector announced on Monday announced their plan to invest Rs 500 crore in setting up a new plant manufacturing sanitary napkins at Sanand in a phased process.

As part of their expansion plans, the company has acquired 1 lakh sq mt of land in Sanand GIDC and will be investing Rs 150 crore in the first phase of setting up of the plant.

Many textiles factories in India have started participating in a project called Sustainable Water Resources (Swar) to improve resource efficiency, cut chemical use in 2014 by 402 tonnes, according to the Stockholm International Water Institute (Siwi).

Skill training to be provided for as many as 20,000 persons working in the textiles sector in Haryana by the Technical Education Department during 2015-16 and 2016-17 financial years under the Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS).

This scheme will be implemented in seven districts of Panipat, Bhiwani, Hisar, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ambala and Rohtak.

The skill training would be provided through empanelled training providers in the sectors of weaving, spinning, knitting, garments, dyeing, block printing, embroidery, handloom and carpet, an official release said here today.

The Union Ministry of Textiles has given approval of Rs 20 crore funds under Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) for implementation in addition to existing ones for generating more employment for the youth in Haryana. This information was give by Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma during the ongoing budget session of Haryana Assembly.

Sharma stated that under the scheme 75 percent of the training cost would be provided by the Ministry of Textiles and the remaining would be contributed by the State.

Work on garment industrial park will start this summer on a new 492 acre which will provide a home for 300 factories and generate around US $3 billion annually in export revenues, said the Bangladesh garment manufacturers and export association.

The BGMEA claims the park will place an emphasis on sustainability, including connecting factories located at the park with a modern Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for the disposal of industrial liquid and sewerage water.

Philippine textile industry at its peak had huge, fully integrated textile mills that did everything –spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing. It produced and exported garments under a system that used quotas. But problems came into the textile industry with the advent of cheap textile imports, the abuse of the quota system (entities with no mills had quotas allowing them to bring in raw materials, real mills had none) and with low prices combined with high wages, there was a general shutdown.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has so far managed to close and demolished 363 textile dyeing, printing and bleaching units functioning in Erode district that were running without any license during the last three years and the untreated waste water was being discharged in the water sources, this was informed by a senior official today.
