Central Silk Board urges Odisha to send more proposals under CSS

The Central Silk Board (CSB) has earmarked a budget of Rs6.3 crore for the development of silk industry in Odisha State in the current fiscal. They have already sanctioned Rs94 lakh and asked the State to send them more proposals under the Central Sponsored Schemes (CSS), said chairman of CSB KM Hanumantharayappa.

As promised by Union Minister for Textile and Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani during International Women’s Day last year to replace thigh reeling, Hanumantharayappa said that Odisha has so far been provided 106 Buniyad machines.

The country’s textile and clothing export target is set to $45 billion for the current fiscal, lower than the initial target of $48.5 billion set for the previous fiscal which was missed by a huge margin. Nevertheless the target for 2017-18 represent a 17 percent rise from the actual level of $38.6 billion in 2016-17, according to provisional official estimates.

With the government announcing a special Rs.6,000 crore package and taking elaborate marketing plans to boost exports. Textile Secretary Rashmi Verma speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of industry body Texprocil held in Mumbai said that they are hopeful of achieving $50 billion mark in exports in the current fiscal as compared to $38 billion exports last year.

The Union Cabinet last week approved special package for the sector with an aim to create one crore new jobs in three years and attract investments of $11 billion while eyeing additional $30 billion in exports.

Garment export of India estimated at $16.80 billion now, expected to reach to $20 billion (nearly Rs 1.33 lakh crore) during the current fiscal, helped by the new initiatives announced by the government for the sector, an industry official said.

India’s apparel exports may just about cross $17 billion in 2015-16, just over 90 percent of its garement export target in the current fiscal compared with the target of $18.73 billion for the fiscal, despite the sector putting up a better show than textiles and mancy other merchandise segemtns, as outbound shipments to key markets like the US and Europe remained lower than expected due to an economic slowdown, sources said on Wednesday.

41 Bangladeshi organizations given permission to export raw jute

The Bangladesh government has taken decision to give permission to 41 organization to export 277,000 bales of raw jute against the 251 letters of credit issued before Nov 3 last year as a special measure, this was informed by Saikat Chandra Halder, PRO of the textile and jute ministry on Wednesday.

The government on Dec 3 last year banned the export of raw jute for an indefinite period to ensure that jute bags were used in the packaging of various goods. Following appeals from jute exporters, permission has been granted to 41 organisations to export raw jute.
