Ministry of Textiles launches Online portal for handloom stall allotment

Online Portal for Handloom Stall Allotment was launched by Rashmi Verma, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles in the national capital on Tuesday. This portal is envisioned as weaver friendly platform, which shall streamline allotment of handloom, stalls. It would save them from the effort of booking the stalls for exhibitions in person. They can now do it all online from across the country.

Weavers/Organizations will be able to apply on online portal as and when online applications are called by way of advertisements in leading newspapers.

Indian garment exporters are exploring opportunities in Iran, although the United States and the European Union are important markets for them, they are exploring new markets for textiles exports in an attempt to reduce their dependence on these two regions for growth, said Rashmi Verma, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai.

With the government announcing a special Rs.6,000 crore package and taking elaborate marketing plans to boost exports. Textile Secretary Rashmi Verma speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of industry body Texprocil held in Mumbai said that they are hopeful of achieving $50 billion mark in exports in the current fiscal as compared to $38 billion exports last year.

The Union Cabinet last week approved special package for the sector with an aim to create one crore new jobs in three years and attract investments of $11 billion while eyeing additional $30 billion in exports.

Spinning mills opt for solar rooftops panel in their units

As many as 50 spinning mills in the region are increasingly opting and planning to install solar rooftop panels in their units with the cost of solar photovoltaic units and accessories coming down significantly. The solar rooftop panels would have the capacity to generate 1-mw of power in each of their units.

These mills would be investing about Rs. 275 crore cumulatively for their solar rooftop projects. In fact, five mills have already installed solar rooftop panels in their units.
