Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week 2015 begins

The eighth edition of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) Sunsilk Fashion Week (PSFW) 2015 to begin on Saturday. The four-day fashion event will witness three distinct platforms within PSFW. Day one will be dedicated to showcasing by luxury/pret designers, while day two and four will feature eight early evening high-street brand shows, followed by late evening luxury/pret shows and four emerging designers showcasing the wave of change in the country's style choices.

Pakistan textile machinery imports grows by 58pc in July-May 2013-14

Pakistan import of textile machinery grows by $200.714 million which is greater by 58 percent to $548.997 million in July-May 2013-14 as compared to the machinery import of $348.283 million in the same period last fiscal year.
 
The Pakistan textile industry imported new machinery to replace the dilapidated machinery to boost up production and not for business start ups. The manufactures have scrapped the existing overused machinery with new one.
 

APTMA claims Punjab textile industry in strain

With the claim of APTMA (All Pakistan Textile Mills Association) of the closure of 25 spinning and weaving factories as well as production of firms demoted by nearly 33%, it is sure for the Punjab province to face a crucial term in the nearing months.

The growing tension in the textile industry is basically due to dissatisfaction of increasing prices and decreasing supply of basic amenities. Electricity rates increased in September last year and 70 % gas cuts were imposed to the factories in Punjab.

Pakistan's textile and clothing export reached $6.944 billion, a growth of over 8.36 percent in the first half (July-December 2013) of the ongoing fiscal year from a year ago from $6.409 billion during the corresponding months of last year, according to the figures of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The government expects hike in growth from these sectors from January 2014 onwards following announcement of duty-free facility by the European market under the GSP Plus

In Faisalabad, approximately 250,000 power looms and 80,000 auto shuttle looms are working. Most of these powerloom needs upgradation to product quality products with the grant of the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status by the European Union to Pakistan.

The major obstacle in the way of owners of outdated power looms is the lack of credit line – a necessity for upgrading their machinery to meet the growing demand for grey fabric in European markets.

Cotton trading declining due to rising prices

Rise in cotton price resulted in a decline in its trading activities at cotton markets in Pakistan. The trade turnover of cotton fell to 2,500 bales (155 kilograms) after the price of the commodity surged above Rs7,300 per maund (37.324 kilograms) at the local markets, a dealer said on Thursday.

The spinning mill-owners opted to wait for a decline in the commodity price to make considerable buying. The situation resulted in low trade.

Things are getting bad to worse for the textile industry in Pakistan. Exports growth was already down to a mere 0.4 per cent in October and may even decline in coming months if the government suspends gas supply for the next three months from December to February. According to reports, the ministry of petroleum and natural resources is likely to move a note to the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC), seeking suspension of gas supply to the industry for three months.
