Textile Research conclave to begin in Tirupur

Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA), NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute, and the Indian Texpreneurs Federation is organizing a three day Textile Research Conclave on February 10 under the support of Union Ministry of Textiles in the knitwear hub of India, Tirupur.

The objective of the event is to encourage product diversification, productivity, and sustainability in textile clusters, said TEA president Raja Shanmugam.

A delegation from the knitwear hub of Tirupur led by Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) visited Odisha to assess investment opportunities in setting up garment manufacturing units in the state. As the Central and state governments provides 60 percent subsidy on building and common facilities under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), 25 percent subsidy for new machinery, Rs 1 crore interest free working capital loan. Also the state government has stipulated a minimum wage Rs 220 for an eight-hour shift and has schemes to provide employment to new workers as well.

Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) In its pre-budget memorandum submitted to the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, has urged the Centre to provide adequate infrastructure facilities such as world class design studio, Research and Development Centre and incubation centre for technical textile that will empower successful textile clusters.

These infrastructure facilities will facilitate rapid growth of not only the existing textile business, but also enable its foray into the niche segments creating quantum growth opportunities to the industry

Tirupur garment sector hit hard by increase in hosiery yarn prices

Garment makers in Tirupur have urged textile mills in their region to drop the move on increasing prices of hosiery yarn as cotton prices are cooling off. Cotton prices have come down by Rs 2000 per candy (about 355kg) and in this scenario, the inclination of mills to increase cotton yarn prices will totally affect the Tirupur garment export sector, said A Sakthivel, president, Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA).

Hosiery yarn prices, which were ruling at Rs 216 per kg in April, are now quoting at around Rs.250 per kg after three rounds of price increases.

The Union budget 2016 for the textile industry brings diverse reaction from the textile sector. According to Tirupur Exporters’ Association, president A. Sakthivel, the budget have brought cheer to textile manufacturers in the State as funds have been allocated for Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme and basic customs duty has been exempted for import of specified fabrics (for manufacture of garments for exports) of value equivalent to one percent of FOB value of exports in the preceding financial year, which will give a boost to garment manufacturers in the State.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given approval for interest equalisation scheme (earlier called Interest Subvention Scheme) on pre and post shipment rupee export credit with effect from April 1, 2015 for five years which is welcomed by the textile units.

According to regional chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organisations, A. Sakthivel, who is also the president of Tirupur Exporters Association was of the opinion that the scheme had come at an appropriate time when the apparel exports registered negative growth in August and September on a year-to-year basis.

Tirupur knitwear exports in the first six month of the ongoing fiscal year 2014-14 has registered revenue of Rs. 10,050 crores, a growth of 16 percent as against Rs. 8,650 crores in the corresponding period of last year. In Dollar terms, the growth is 13.35 per cent year-on-year during April-September 2014, said Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) president A Sakthivel.

The Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) at an Exporters' Meet held at Tirupur, Panda made an appeal to take up the issue of 24 X 7 customs clearance at the ports, a proposal announced by the Finanace Minister Arun Jaitley in the budget, to expedite the movement of garments.

Union textile secretary, Sanjay Kumar Panda in response to the appeal made has assured the knitwear garment exporters to take up various issues either confronting them or pending for implementation with the concerned ministries and try to resolve them.
