Texprocil urge to include exports of value added products to African countries in new FT Policy

In the new Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20 all benefits on exports to African countries has been removed. According to the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) a textile industry body, removal of benefits on exports to African countries will affect shipments of value added products like cotton dyed and printed fabrics and made-ups to African countries.

In the WTO subsidies committee meetings, the WTO member countries, in particular the US supported by European Union, Turkey, Japan and others have asked India to phase out of export subsidies on textiles and the apparel sectors, Parliament was informed today.

As per the WTO data for 2006 and 2007, India has crossed the export competitiveness limit (exports reaching 3.25 percent of the world trade) consecutively for two years in these sectors, this was informed by Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Tirupur knitwear exports in the first six month of the ongoing fiscal year 2014-14 has registered revenue of Rs. 10,050 crores, a growth of 16 percent as against Rs. 8,650 crores in the corresponding period of last year. In Dollar terms, the growth is 13.35 per cent year-on-year during April-September 2014, said Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) president A Sakthivel.

Exporters from this tiny town, the hub for knitwear exports are hoping to close the fiscal with an export turnover of Rs 21,000 crore.

Indian apparel exports registered 17.6 pc growth in Apr-Sept

Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) informed Tuesday that garment exports are on the sustained path of growth with apparel exports from India having registered 17.6 percent growth in April-September 2014.
