Ministry of Textiles assigns NITRA for Common Effluent Treatment Plant project

Union Textile Minister, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, joined the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) designed by NITRA at Ajrakhpur, Bhuj (Gujarat) on 18th March 2017.

The 150 KLD CETP project has been assigned to NITRA for implementation by Ministry of Textiles through Handicrafts Mega Cluster Mission (HMCM). NITRA designed a modern treatment scheme integrated with water reclamation for the CETP.

Ichalkaranji textile units asked to make ETP fully operational in nine months

Ichalkaranji-based union leader Datta Mane had approached the Bombay high court regarding release of untreated effluent in the Panchganga against which the Bombay high court on Wednesday asked the textile units to make the common effluent treatment plant (ETP) in Ichalkaranji fully operational within nine months, precisely by March next year. Ichalkaranji is a textile town and it has 12-MLD ETP.

Textile units in Sanganer have failed to install a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) and are discharging 17-18 million litres per day (MLD) of untreated chemical water into Dravyawati river. The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) following high court order has issued closure notices to almost 893 textile units. The power department and PHED have been also asked to snap all electricity and water connections of the identified units.

The Federation of All Trade and Industries Association (FATIA) has urged the state government to take measure to safeguard the textile processing units from collapse, as textile sector ranks next only to agriculture in terms of employment generation.

They have expressed apprehensions over fructification of the proposal for establishing common effluent treatment plant worth Rs. 700 crore benefitting production units in Erode, Namakka, Karur and Salem districts.
