SIPCOT to start work on textile Park at Irur by October

The construction of the Textile Park at Irur village on the Tiruchi-Perambalur National Highway to start by October as all the preliminary works have been taken up for the transfer of land to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT).

The textile park proposal has attracted a large number of entrepreneurs, with as many as 31 entrepreneurs from different parts of the State expressing interest to set up their units. One of them has demanded allocation of five acres for producing readymade garments.

The site for the textile park planned to be set up at Padalur, on the Tiruchi – Chennai National Highway has been eventually finalized after witnessing several impediments in its initial three years.

The site is to come up on an area of 40.35 hectares — 36.79 hectares of government poramboke land in the Padalur village and 3.56 hectares government poramboke land in Irur village. The park is located at a distance about one km from the Tiruchi – Chennai National Highway and an approach road is planned to be laid at an estimate of Rs. One crore.

Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa at the state assembly on Tuesday announced that the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) will be setting an integrated textile processing park at a cost of INR 150 crore in Thiruvadanai at Ramanathapuram district.

Thirty textile-related companies would come up in the 224-acre textile park at an estimated expenditure of Rs450 crore, giving direct employment to 6,000 people. It would also have 1 crore litre capacity desalination plant to meet the water requirements.

The Perambalur district administration is in the process of handing over 40.35 hectares of land for Textile Park coming up on Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway at Padalur to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) – the implementing agency of the project.

Perambalur district, a major cotton growing district stands to benefit from the textile park.

The agency has written to the State government for getting administrative sanction for the project. After getting the sanction, SIPCOT would provide infrastructure facilities to the entrepreneurs.
