Foreign denim manufacturers urged to invest in Bangladesh denim sector

International Affairs Adviser to Prime Minister Gowher Rizvi was addressing as the chief guest at the inauguration of a two-day Denim and Jeans.com Bangladesh show that displayed jeans and denim products along with fabrics to local and foreign jeans manufacturers in Dhaka yesterday urged foreign denim manufacturers to invest in Bangladesh’s denim sector as huge potential lied with the demand rising.

Gowher said that Bangladesh has become a global player in manufacturing RMG products and there is no reason that it cannot be the number one manufacturer in the world.

A report was released by CII and Wazir Advisors at the CII Texcon 2015 here on Thursday, on how to enable ‘Make in India’ possible in textile and apparel sector. The report highlighted that the TPP trade agreement will open markets and enable countries like Vietnam a zero duty access to the US market for textile, while Indian players will have to pay 14-32% duties, which will make them uncompetitive.

Tajikistan’s Minister of Agriculture Qosim Rahbar at the end of the last week met Mr. Chen Dao Chuan, Director of Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Chuntai Dangara Sin Sil Textile where the two discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture, including cultivation and construction of two cotton processing factories in Tajikistan.

The new factories are expected to be constructed in the Dangara and Jilikul districts of the Khatlon province. The design works for the new factories are nearing completion, the ministry said on Monday.

The North Eastern region with a young Himalaya range is prone to landslides, high seismic activity and weak soil conditions. The geotextiles technology shall prove an apt solution for such conditions. The Ministry of Textiles keeping this in view has approved a ‘Scheme for promoting usage of geotechnical textiles in north east region (NER)’ in order to capitalize on the benefits of geotechnical textiles.

The use of this modern and globally proven technology will help in creating roads and infrastructure in north east (NE) which will require less maintenance and shall have longer life.
