Bangladesh textile firms will travel across the US cotton belt

Cotton Council International (CCI), the National Cotton Council’s export promotions arm, is conducting this special trade mission under which twelve executives from Bangladeshi textile companies will travel across the U.S. Cotton Belt to get a closer look at COTTON USA and learn more about U.S. cotton, the world’s preferred fiber.

During the special trade mission set from April 30 to May 6 , the group of Bangladeshi textile executive will participate in multiple meetings with U.S. cotton exporters to help facilitate the export of U.S. cotton.

With the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) resorting to purchase cotton at commercial rates from different parts of key cotton growing regions in the country, cotton prices have moved up and also improving the market sentiment. Prices have firmed up to R41,500 per candy from the prevailing rates of R38,000 and farmers are now beginning to get better rates from traders, according to top officials of CCI.

The supply crunch in the textile industry had driven up prices higher than international prices and since the traders are unable to meet obligations, buyers could look to other markets. Cotton prices across the country are ruling high on subdued arrivals.

The lack of demand in the apparels industry has also impacted arrivals and although farmers are getting high prices, they prefer to hold back because of the currency shortage in the market.

America's National Cotton Council (NCC) signed an agreement with the China Cotton Textile Association (CCTA) in Beijing during a recent visit of an NCC leadership delegation to share information with the Chinese cotton/textile industries and update them on the US cotton industry. Union Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar on Friday at a press conference talking about the Textile Ministry’s performance in the past two years said that under the scheme for integrated textile parks (SITP) implemented to stimulate development of infrastructure, 24 new textile parks have been sanctioned in the last two years, facilitating investment of Rs 4,500 crore and generating employment for 66,000 people.
