Aptma seeks exemption from extra anti-dumping duty on specialty PSF

Pakistan only produces normal (generic) polyester staple fibre of semi dull and bright type in deniers of 0.8-1.4 according to All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), hence wants exemption from additional anti-dumping duty on the import of specialty polyester fibre which is not being produced domestically as additional duty is limiting the textile industry from product and market diversification.

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has urged the government to completely remove the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) from the entire textile chain to enable it to regain its competitive edge and market share.

Tariq Saud Chairman APTMA in view of declining oil prices and natural gas prices in the international market there is no justification for imposition of GIDC on textile industry which is already burdened and has become uncompetitive vis-à-vis to their regional competitors in the absence of liquidity flow and high cost of doing business.

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association Chairman Tariq Saud at an emergent meeting of the member mills held at the Punjab office of the Association to review the import statistics of the Man Made Fiber yarn for domestic consumption demanded of imposing 15 percent Regulatory Duty on the import of Man-made fibers, as it increased by four times in last four years and likely to reach to 57000 tones per annum by the end of 2015-16.

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) in light of low cotton production has put forth the demands before the government to wave off customs duty on cotton imports and has also demanded a five percent rebate on export of textile products.

Currently the importers are paying three percent customs duty on cotton.

The textile mills association Chairman Tariq Saud said that at least 110 factories are shut at the time.
