All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has urged the government to completely remove the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) from the entire textile chain to enable it to regain its competitive edge and market share.

Tariq Saud Chairman APTMA in view of declining oil prices and natural gas prices in the international market there is no justification for imposition of GIDC on textile industry which is already burdened and has become uncompetitive vis-à-vis to their regional competitors in the absence of liquidity flow and high cost of doing business.

The delay in the announcement of textile package was having serious aftermath on the textile sector including permanent closure of units, labour layoff, impact on cotton procurement and supply chain disruption, said All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Punjab chapter chairman Aamir Fiaz Sheikh, accompanied by former central chairman S.M. Tanveer, at a press conference held on Saturday.

Chairman All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) S M Tanveer expressing concern over the critical situation the textile industry of Pakistan is going through due to high cost of doing business, energy constraints, high cost of finance and labour wages as against the regional competitors. Moreover, if the government alters the Reduced Rate Regime (RRR), fails to release stuck up refunds and does not ensure liquidity supply from banks to the textile industry immediately, it may end up with 50% closure of the textile industry.
