Pakistan textile exports have significantly improved, the consistent supply of gas to export oriented textile sector produced the desired results, especially in Punjab. For the first time, the government realized the fact and ensured gas supply to textile export industry under a special arrangement during winters which proved a successful step.

Textile exporters have welcomed the growth of 22.4 percent in textile exports for the month of December 2013 and termed the surge a pleasant sign for ailing economy.

Braskem, Brazilian resins giant in collaboration with Siluria Technologies to commercialise a technology developed by Siluria for converting methane in natural gas to ethylene. They believe the technology can play an important part in their growth strategy as well as potentially strengthening their current asset base.

Under the agreement, Braskem and Siluria will jointly explore the commercial deployment of the technology, which involves the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM), for supplying ethylene to Braskem.

ONGC put back startup of new paraxylene plant to Q3 of 2014

The new aromatics plant by state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp which is designed to produce 900,000 mt/year of paraxylene and 270,000 mt/year of benzene in Mangalore has put back startup to the third quarter of 2014, it was earlier schedule in March, sources close to the company said Wednesday.

ONGC had initially planned to start commercial operations in April 2013, but this was pushed back several times due to delays in construction.
Other than ONGC, several new PX plants across the region have also recently pushed back their startup dates to later this year

SA wool prices move high on good demand

South African wool prices reached new high at this week's national sale due to good demand coming from the Chinese and European markets, Cape Wools said on Wednesday.

Cape Wools' Merino indicator gained 2.3-percent to close the day at R118.30/kg (clean). This is a 16-percent increase on the opening sale and is up 5.2-percent on the corresponding sale last year said, spokeswoman Lizelle Delport

Delport said wool receipts were up six percent compared with the corresponding period last season.

Ghana’s textile industry is under threat of collapse due to smuggling activities within the industry. The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI) is to get on a nationwide campaign to educate traders on the dangers of dealing in pirated textiles. The acting Director of Communications of MoTI, Nana Akrasi Sarpong, said that the educational campaign was to expose the traders to the effects of dealing in pirated textiles on Ghana’s textile industry and also prepare their minds for the intended exercise by the task force.

South Gujarat textile units run out of industrial gas

Textile units in south Gujarat run out of gas forced to pull their shutters down for 10 days, after Gujarat Gas, a subsidiary of the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd has stopped supply of industrial gas.

Gas is not available from spot markets. Supply has not been stopped to consumers and essential industries. But supply to non-essential industries like textiles and chemical units has been stopped, a source said.

The South Gujarat Textile Processors Association (SGTPA) has made representations to the state government to find out the solution to the issue.

Jharcraft taking exemplary measures to boost and promote silk

Jharkhand Silk Textile & Handicrafts Development Corporation (Jharcraft) has been taking exemplary measures to boost silk growth in the state due to which the silk production has more than doubled in 2012-13.

Jharcraft's first emporium was launched in September 2007 at Roshpa Tower in Ranchi. There has been no looking back since then. Silk production has jumped to 1,025 metric tonnes (mt) in 2012-13 from 90 mt in 2006.

Brisk trading of the last two days faded out as ginners were reluctant to sell their stocks at current rates, anticipating a further rise in lint prices in the coming days. The Pakistan cotton market was firm on Wednesday where buyers remained in the forefront.

However, sudden withdrawal of sellers to the sidelines restricted trading activity though the underlying tone remained firm.

Floor brokers said that surge in lint prices on the world cotton markets was the main driving force which made ginners to hold back their stocks hoping prices would rise further on strong demand.
