Reliance Industries, owner of the world's biggest refining complex, after the full-scale start-up of its 2.2 million tonnes per year (tpy) paraxylene plant located in western Gujarat state which is currently operating at about 800,000 tpy capacity. The project’s capacity is set to come on stream before the end of this financial year in March. This will halt heavy naphtha exports in 2017/18.

The new aromatics plant by state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp which is designed to produce 900,000 mt/year of paraxylene and 270,000 mt/year of benzene in Mangalore has put back startup to the third quarter of 2014, it was earlier schedule in March, sources close to the company said Wednesday.

ONGC had initially planned to start commercial operations in April 2013, but this was pushed back several times due to delays in construction.
Other than ONGC, several new PX plants across the region have also recently pushed back their startup dates to later this year

SK Incheon Petrochem PX plant in danger of being closed

SK Incheon Petrochem’s paraxylene plant of the 1.6 trillion-won having completed 90 percent of work construction is in danger of being closed having found by the Seo-gu district office that the company had violated the city's building code in numerous instances.

On January 6, an official of the Seo-gu District Office said that the district would send a notification to halt the construction on the grounds that it found SK Incheon Petrochem had built the plant in excess of the area previously permitted with the city authorities.
