China to run into shortage of paraxylene supply in 2014

China is the world's largest PX producer, accounting for about a quarter of the global PX production capacity and a major raw material which goes into making of polyester products, will see a wider shortage of paraxylene (PX) supply in 2014, according to a research report warned on Thursday.

In 2013, the domestic PX industry managed to meet only 47 percent of China's demand.

The Pakistan cotton production has been unremitting at 13 million bales to 15 million bales since the last five years, despite many experiments based on international and national research, according to informed conveyed on Thursday by The National Assembly’s (NA) Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile
The meeting of the NA’s body was held under the chairmanship of Siraj Khan.

Textile Secretary Rukhsana Shah informed that the textile sector in the country represents a complete value chain and has 35,000 shuttle less looms, 350,000 power looms and 18,000 knitting machines.

Higher exports boost cotton yarn spinners' profitability

The surge in the demand for cotton yarn in the export market and domestic apparel and home furnishing sector, has renewed vigour and confidence of Indian spinning mills this year. On the back of higher exports, the spinners' profitability is increasing while many of them are raising headcounts to full fill increased order flow.

The good monsoon and a better cotton crop may help keeping the price of cotton viable for the industry in the next few months, thus increasing the margins of mills.

Union Ministry of Textiles to give a major fillip for modernization in the weaving sector a programme has been launched called the ‘Hire-Purchase Scheme’ in the revised restructured Technology Upgradation Scheme (RR-TUFS). A special purpose vehicle (SPV), promoted by a group of weavers, a large-scale textile manufacturer and a co-operative or an entrepreneur, will procure the machines and provide them on a hire-purchase basis to the weavers.

Lease rent attracts 12 per cent service tax, and this should be removed for the scheme so that the SPV can lease out the looms to the weavers.

Cotton growers hit hard in Tiruchi and Perambalur districts due to poor rain and higher incidence of disease damaging the crops. A new disease had hit cotton crops in the region and Bt cotton growers had suffered severe loss due to the disease. They have not witnessed such disease in the past and the State government should conduct an exclusive study on Bt cotton and evolve remedial measure, said S. Raja Chidambaram, State secretary, Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam.

Union Textile Minister, K Sambasiva Rao, gives clearance for the Technology Upgradation Fund subsidy (TUF) for the quarter ending September last.

Southern India Mills' Association thanked the minister for clearing the TUF and for constituting a committee for considering the pending cases of TUF, consequent to a meeting of a delegation from SIMA and Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, which will finalise the list in 10 days and process the issue, SIMA Chairman T Rajkumar said in a statement here.

Indian exporters of cotton yarn have been restored back with export incentive

Incentives for raw cotton and yarn exports that were withdrawn in September have been restored back. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), a unit of the trade ministry, gave no reason for restoring export benefits for yarn, a value-added product used by textile mills.

India, the world's second-biggest raw cotton export, has restored an incentive scheme for cotton yarn exports, an official order said on Thursday.

Traders has projected that India will ship around 8-9 million bales of raw cotton in the crop year to September, down from 10.1 million bales in 2012/13.
