Union minister of textiles K S Rao inaugurated the 4th edition of the textiles fair 'Tex-Trends India–2014', one of Asia's largest textile shows. Maximum buyers from United States have registered for participating in 'Tex Trends India 2014', featuring over 380 exhibitors and displaying diverse range of products from the entire length and breadth of the country. More than 3,260 global buyers and 440 buying agents have registered for the fair so far.

KCA calls for reconsidering of cotton grading fee proposal

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) has opposed government’s proposal to impose grading fee on cotton trade, saying the trade is already paying various duties and taxes including cotton cess.

Though the KCA appreciated government’s move to strengthen cotton grading and standardisation system in the country which would help fetch higher price for the commodity and its made-ups in the international market, it expressed reservation over government’s proposal to impose grading fee at Rs5 per bale on cotton trade.

Pakistan's textile and clothing export reached $6.944 billion, a growth of over 8.36 percent in the first half (July-December 2013) of the ongoing fiscal year from a year ago from $6.409 billion during the corresponding months of last year, according to the figures of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The government expects hike in growth from these sectors from January 2014 onwards following announcement of duty-free facility by the European market under the GSP Plus

Demand for U.S. Cotton picking up

The upland cotton—the most commonly grown variety in the U.S. net export sales totaled 223,700 bales in the week ended Jan. 9, up 46% from the prior four-week average, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said. It was the largest sales number, minus any canceled orders, since the week ended Dec. 12. Demand for U.S. cotton is picking up, adding to concerns about the availability of supplies of the fiber.

Cotton traded on the ICE Futures U.S. exchange ended at 86.80 cents a pound Friday, putting the one-week gain at 5.1%, the biggest weekly increase since June.

EBITDA margin of cotton yarn industry expected to see growth in FY14

CARE Research looks ahead to EBITDA margins of cotton yarn industry improving in FY14. However, the industry’s net margins would be constrained by the rising interest cost (due to burgeoning debt) and depreciation (due to additional capacity addition) but would remain higher than the margins reported in FY13.

Yarn is mainly imported by the countries which are involved in making the finished product i.e. fabric. The key export destinations for India include China, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Peru, Korea, Turkey and Europe.

Cotton driven by strong buying interest from spinners mainly because of lower-than-expected cotton crop size, cotton prices gained to mark a seasonal high record on Monday

On the trading side as many ginners were still reluctant to clear their stocks even at rising cotton prices, the trading activity was slow.
Floor brokers said that with very little cotton in the fields, only stocks held by growers are finding their way into ginneries.

Besides, unsold cotton stocks held by ginners were also being offered for sale to spinners, they added.
