Textile mills want hank yarn obligation to be either scrapped or reduce as its affect growth

Hank yarn obligation is an age old proviso compelling the textile mills from Tirupur and its hinterland to produce a minimum of 40 per cent of the yarn as hank yarn that deterrent to growth and threat to their economic viability. The textile entrepreneurs want the obligation rule either be scrapped or reduce the obligation limit to 10 percent.

Chhattisgarh govt working out plans to massively increase Kosa-Silk production

The Chhattisgarh Government to provide livelihood for people residing in rural pockets of the state is planning to massively increase production of Kosa-Silk. Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand has written letters to all district collectors in this regard. A committee would be formed in every district to implement the plan.

In fact, the Chhattisgarh Government is drawing up an elaborate five-year plan for promotion of Kosa-Silk production in the State. All district collectors are requested to prepare a report on production prospects of Kosa and Silk in their respective regions.

Handloom weavers urges government to establish an exclusive bank

To revive the handloom industry and protect the interests of weavers, the Weavers’ Protection Committee are wanting separate bank to cater to their needs. Hence, they have urged the government to take step for establishing an exclusive bank.

Spinners continued to build up stock despite rising cotton prices

Despite rising cotton prices on Tuesday, spinners continued to build up their stocks fearing delay in arrival of next crop. The next cotton crop is likely to be late by three to four days, as a result of the ongoing spell of rain in Punjab and cold weather in Sindh.

The higher consumption of cotton by the textile industry is also putting pressure on lint prices which have moved to a seasonal high of Rs5,250 per maund. However, shortage of quality lint is another major factor which has pushed prices up.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) left its spot rates unchanged.

The Chairman APTMA S M Tanveer during his meeting with the International Cotton Association (ICA) President stated the awareness on the ICA rules and regulations and training of the cotton importers was an urgent need of the hour. The ICA rule 219 consisting of biased trading rules, has been affecting badly the local textile industry in terms of import of cotton from India.

Besides this he also discussed issues relating to shipment delays, quality assurance and defaulters in the ICA list which are presently being faced by the APTMA members in their day to day cotton trade.
