Chairman of the company, Sun Weiting, said the factories were not only textile producing facilities, but took pride in a fashion designing, developing platform and intelligent and digital machines for developing environmentally-friendly textiles. The textile mill is owned by Huafu Fashion Co. Ltd., the world's largest supplier of melange yarn, which is based in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Ichalkaranji a major textile hub in the country, known as the Manchester of Maharashtra, in just 15 day the daily turnover at has plummetted from Rs 45 crore to Rs 13 crore as traders are cancelling orders unless the mills accept payment in demonetised notes. Bulk orders have been cancelled and transportation of raw material has been delayed.

On Tuesday, cotton prices in Pakistan slid amid lackluster trade due to lack of buying interest from spinners and higher imports of cotton, whereas, cotton prices in the world markets moved higher.

The spot rate settled at PakRs5,500/maund (37.324 kilogram each), down PakRs50/maund from the previous level. Around 1400 bales of cotton were changed hand in the ready markets of Sindh and Punjab.

Bangladeshi spinners demand introduction of warehousing facility for cotton trade to reduce lead-time and ensure the timely sourcing of the fibre. Under the facility, merchants from different countries will store cotton at Chittagong port warehouses to sell out their cotton to the local cotton importers and spinners. The merchants can also re-export the cotton from the port to other destinations.

The system is already in use by the Chinese government, which is the largest importer of cotton.

Pakistan cotton economy hit due to ICA biased trading rules

The Chairman APTMA S M Tanveer during his meeting with the International Cotton Association (ICA) President stated the awareness on the ICA rules and regulations and training of the cotton importers was an urgent need of the hour. The ICA rule 219 consisting of biased trading rules, has been affecting badly the local textile industry in terms of import of cotton from India.

Besides this he also discussed issues relating to shipment delays, quality assurance and defaulters in the ICA list which are presently being faced by the APTMA members in their day to day cotton trade.

KCA calls for reconsidering of cotton grading fee proposal

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) has opposed government’s proposal to impose grading fee on cotton trade, saying the trade is already paying various duties and taxes including cotton cess.

Though the KCA appreciated government’s move to strengthen cotton grading and standardisation system in the country which would help fetch higher price for the commodity and its made-ups in the international market, it expressed reservation over government’s proposal to impose grading fee at Rs5 per bale on cotton trade.
