Drop in Chinese demand hurts cotton yarn exports

Exports declined 16.3% during the timeframe even though yarn production increased 3.5% between 2013-14 and 2017-18. The share of exports in total yarn production has come down to 27% in 2017-18 from 33% in 2013-14.

India’s share has dropped to around 26% in 2017 from 30% in 2015 inspite of remaining the largest exporter of cotton yarn in the world.

Baranovichi Cotton Production Association is the largest manufacturer of textile products in Europe and CIS countries with the complete production cycle: from cotton processing and yarn production up to ready-made goods output. Baranovichi Cotton Production Association plans to restore exports; the task is to double exports to the EU in 2016, said General Director Ivan Turchak.

Baranovichi Cotton Production Association sells 70% of its output domestically and exports the rest, with Russia being the main sales market.

Pakistan textile policy 2009-14 fails to achieve the set export target

The Pakistan Textile Policy 2009-14 has failed bleakly to achieve its target of doubling exports of the country’s textile industry. The plan comprised short-term support actions and long-term initiatives aimed at promoting value addition on a wider scale.

When the policy was unveiled, textile exports were touching $12 billion in 2009-10. Fast forward to 2012-13, the figure went up slightly at around $13 billion. However, the shipments were nowhere near the target of $25 billion.

The textile industry has an 8% share in the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.

Poor demand from spinning mills to slew cotton prices

With China continuing to decrease cotton yarn imports from India, demand for cotton from domestic spinning mills for producing yarn is set to decline, it is also low purchasing power that has led to fall in demand for cotton.
 
According to K Selvaraju of South Indian Mills Association (SIMA) there have been fall in demand since April 15-20%, due to that cotton prices have already declined by around Rs 500 per candy and are expected to decline by another Rs 1000-2000 per candy owing to poor demand from spinning mills.
 

Pakistan yarn production, exports afflicted over Chinese cotton policy

Pakistan yarn export to China reduced to $80 million in February 2014 while in January it was about $200m. Although yarn manufacturing posted growth compared to the previous year, a gradual slowdown is visible in the second and third quarters of the fiscal year 2014.
 
Cotton yarn production has also started falling in the country, reflecting the slowing demand from China. Growth in cotton yarn production was just 0.9pc in the third quarter of the FY-14 while the growth was 3.2pc in the same quarter of last year.

Vietnam's top textiles manufacturer, Vinatex or Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group to fund restructuring and boost profit plans to sell stakes, in a listing it hopes would accede with the agreement of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) - a 12-nation pact that would cover a third of global trade.
 
Vinatex will conduct its IPO on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange on July 22, offering 24.4 percent of the company, or 122 million stakes, at a starting price of 11,000 dong (52 U.S. cents) each.
