India’s blended spun yarns export was worth US$30.3 million in May 2016, down 5.8 per cent YoY while volumes were at 10.5 million kg. During April 2016, blended spun yarns export value was up 11.2 per cent YoY while volumes rose 19.5 per cent as compared to the same month last year.

5.3 million kg of PC yarns was exported from India during May. Polyester cottons yarns were exported to 47 countries in May 2016, of which, Bangladesh and Honduras were the largest importers of PC yarn from India in May followed by Colombia.

Pakistan yarn export to China reduced to $80 million in February 2014 while in January it was about $200m. Although yarn manufacturing posted growth compared to the previous year, a gradual slowdown is visible in the second and third quarters of the fiscal year 2014.
 
Cotton yarn production has also started falling in the country, reflecting the slowing demand from China. Growth in cotton yarn production was just 0.9pc in the third quarter of the FY-14 while the growth was 3.2pc in the same quarter of last year.

The Bangladesh local garment exporters might face tough competition from India, after signing of the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU) as India is negotiating with the EU, to get duty-free access to the market for apparel products. To face the emerging challenges, Bangladesh need to enhance its production capacity of yarn and fabric which will help local apparel exporters, industry insiders said.
