The West Bengal government to save a dying textile art of the state is set to launch its third premium fashion designer brand ‘Baluchari’ being mentored and designed by designer Abhiskek Dutta after success with Biswa Bangla and Club Muslin. The chief minister is expected to inaugurate the brand's flagship store in Kolkata's high street Park Street soon.

Besides saris, the fashion brand will also launch shoes, bags, wallets, belts and furnishing all using silk. It will also help to revive the art of making Baluchari silk from districts of Bankura and Purulia.

The West Bengal government hopes to attract around Rs 37,000 crore investment in the state through 10 Textile Clusters or Parks under Integrated Textile Development project on PPP model over the next three years and will provide employment to 6-10 lakh people.

These parks, involving hosiery, ready-made garments and knitting, will come up at Barasat, Bankura, Metiabruz, Uluberia, Salt Lake, among other places. Most of the investments will be from private sector.

The West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced that in a bid to facilitate business in the state, the government has made an ambitious plan to attract around ₹37,000 crore in the State through 10 textiles clusters or parks.

The proposed projects planned which includes setting up of parks to fetch a total estimated investment of more than ₹37,000 crore to boost the textile sector and these will also provide employment to 6 lakh people.
