Mulji Jetha market, a 136 year old textile market in South Mumbai and the largest textile bazaars in Asia with hundreds of wholesale stories and some retailers too. The market which is still crowded and customers stream in endlessly but it has changed fundamentally. Instead of fabrics from the country’s traditional textile hubs, it is flooded with Chinese textiles.

A 13-member delegation representing Denim Manufacturers Association (DMA) and Northern India Textile Mills Association (NITMA) recently visited Vietnam to explore the market. Some textile players stirred by the proposed textile park that is likely to come up near the Southern Vietnam economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City are eyeing at investment opportunities there.

Vietnam is one of leading source countries for apparel and is dependent on other nations such as China for textile input.

Surat increases export by 200pc of MMF fabrics to Pakistan

Surat, the country's biggest manufacturer of man-made fabric has increase its export of (MMF) fabrics to Pakistan by 200 percent since 2011-12, a welcome development considering the hassled relations between the two countries.

According to Synthetic and Rayon Textile Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), total export from India to Pakistan from April 2014 to January 2015 witnessed 20 percent increase at Rs 2,400 crore compared to the same period in previous year . The fabric export to Pakistan is predicted to touch Rs 3,000 crore by the end of this financial year.

Intexpo Bangladesh 2014, a two day Indian textile exhibition opens in Dhaka today Monday at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in the city. The exhibition has been jointly organised by the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India and Indian High Commission (IHC) in Bangladesh.

Mirza Azam, state minister textiles and jute is likely to open the exhibition.

Man-made textiles export jumps 25 per cent in 2013-14

According to data released by the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), export of MMF yarn, fabrics and made-ups jumped 25 per cent increase in fiscal 2013-14 to Rs 31,000 crore from previous year. In March 2014, these exports registered a growth of 22.28 per cent to Rs 2,972 crore from Rs 2,375 crore in the corresponding month a year ago.
 
During the year, UAE, the USA, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan and Italy were the leading export destinations that contributed majorly in the growth of export.
