The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) is organizing the 14th International Textile Asia Exhibition, mega textile exhibition first time in Lahore in collaboration with Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan, where more than 35,000 trade and corporate visitors are expected to visit during three days. Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif along with federal commerce minister Khurram Dastgir will inaugurate the exhibition being held at Lahore Expo Centre from 29-31 August.

The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) in order to attract new investment, revive economic growth and get rid of liquidity crunch has urged for zero rating facility be given to export-oriented, value-added textile industry.

Prgmea Chairman Ijaz Khokhar in a statement on Saturday said that ‘No Tax, No Refund’ formula should be applied to value-added textile chain by including it in zero-rated regime as it is generating more employment and more revenue from other textile chain.

Pakistan value-added textile sector hamstrung by cash crunch as more than Rs 205 billion refunds has been stuck up with the government. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) still withholds more than Rs 13 billion under Drawback on Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL) claims and about Rs 17 billion sales taxes under refund claims, causing immense problems to the textile industry, according to Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA).

Pakistan exporters disappointed with the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee to delay the approval of the second five-year Pakistan textile policy 2014-19 for another couple of weeks, as they were eagerly awaiting cash incentives for their future exports and investments.

The textile policy was originally due in September. The sooner the policy is finalised, the better for the industry and textile exports, as the Heimtextil fair [in Germany] is fast approaching.
