Pakistan to enhance exports need to focus on finished textile goods

In order to enhance exports, the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) recommends announcement of zero-rated regime by the prime minister; release of stuck up refund payments against sales tax, duty drawback and drawback on local taxes and levies (DLTL); No payment no refund system; tariff of electricity, gas and water for export sectors should be brought down; and incentives on exports as per the competitors countries.

According to the association, finished textile goods are the only viable solution to boost the country’s exports.

Cotton market witnessed fresh buying interest by spinners and mills on Tuesday as the ginners have only two million bales of unsold stock, dealers said. In the ready business, around 5000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4200-5800.

However, the official spot rate was down by Rs 50 to Rs 5,600 while in the Punjab, prices showed no change at Rs 3100 and Rs 3400, dealers said.

It is the first time that a Pakistani garment sector body signed an agreement with the overseas stakeholders for strengthening mutual trade of garment and textile. Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) and China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel (CCCT) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote and expand cooperation between Pakistan and Chinese textile and apparel companies.

As per the MoU, PRGMEA will provide visa assistance to Chinese companies through invitation letters.

The textile industry stakeholders has urged the PM to announce zero rated regime for value added textile industry with immediate effect rather than from July 2016 and issue the bonds for exporters committed by the finance minister with any further delay. The 14th International Textile Asia Exhibition took off to a good start with orders worth $150 million booked on the opening day, while deals worth more than $300 million were agreed to during the three day mega textile fair organised by the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA). It witnessed around 55,000 visitors during first two days while more than 100,000 visitors registered their presence in textile fairs in three days.
