Demand for special relief package for ginning sector

The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association has urged the government revision of tax slabs package to be included in the special relief package for the ginning sector, as they will be unable to run factories in the next season of 2017-18 due to burden of taxes and other crisis.

PCGA chairman Dr Jeso Mal demanded incentives-oriented package for the ginning sector as textile industry was the only buyer of cotton in the market and there was no other buyer in the country.

The PCGA chairman said that the ginning sector should be declared tax-free industry at least for three years.

The Indian Spinners Association (ISA) has alleged that Grasim Industries, the prime manufacturer of VSF in India, is selling the raw material at prices much higher than global rates, hurting the domestic textile industry and hence urged the government to do away with the anti-dumping duty on viscose staple fibre (VSF), imposed in 2010 on shipments from China and Indonesia.

In India, VSF is a major input in the manufacture of fabrics made of poly-viscose and 100 per cent viscose yarn. There are about 150 spinning mills in the country, with about five million spindles.

Muhammad Naseer Malik, Vice Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) appreciating the government of Pakistan for announcing an ambitious Textile Policy for next five year 2014-19 has urged the government that all stuck up claims of the exporters including DLTL, Custom Rebates, Sales Tax Rebate etc need to be released within a month.
