Demand to remove anti-dumping duty on yarn is being raised from various circles including Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA), Malegaon Industries and Manufacturers Association (MIMA), Bhiwandi Powerloom Federation and other organisations working for the industry. Also Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi making a strong appeal to the government to remove anti-dumping duty on synthetic yarn, on Wednesday said that the government's 'Make in India' policy is proving disastrous for the local textile industry.

Gerbang Teknologi Cikarang (GTC) seeing rise in the number of clients accessing the logistics storage center (PLB) to purchase cotton, from Cikampek located close to the dry port to Bandung some 112 kilometers away has launched its first logistics storage center (PLB) to supply raw material for the local textile industry. Imported cotton has found a new home in the West Java city of Cikarang.

The company said that the new storage center would help local businesses secure cotton in a more affordable way, since most of the commodity for local use was still stored in Malaysia.

The Kenyan government to start implementing a plan from next month to reduce the impact of second-hand clothes on the local textile industry, commonly known as mitumba.

Rajeev Arora, the adviser for textile value chain at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives at the launch of a report on Kenya's textile and fashion industry said the government will supply clothes produced at EPZ to mitumba traders, and they will retail at the same price as imported second-hand clothes.

At the cotton market on Tuesday in the process of tight supply of fine quality, dealers said that prices showed modest improvement. Market sources said that the ginners, who have limited stock of unsold quality lint raised prices, so a few needy mills and spinners indulged in fresh buying to meet requirements

The official spot rate gained Rs 50 Rs 5,600 while in ready session, approximately 3000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5300 and Rs 5900, dealers said.

The Indonesian Textile Association’s (API) advisory board chairman, Benny Soetrisno while speaking at the recent press conference said that the US-led TPP is likely bring more benefits than harm to the local textile industry, but there’s one thing that need to watch out when joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership [TPP], that’s the yarn-forward clause. Hence, the country has to boost the industry’s readiness at all stages of the manufacturing process.

The Zimbabwean government has gazetted some Statutory Instruments to discourage cheap imports of textile products into the country, this is likely to push the capacity utilization of local textile industry to 45 percent this year, an official said.

Zimbabwe Textile Manufacturers’ Association secretary-general, Raymond Huni said that the industry would take off well this year due to measures introduced by government to protect the industry.

Zimbabwe government is yet to gazette Statutory Instruments (Sis) discouraging cheap imports of textile products into the country due to which the local textile industry has been operating at below 30% of capacity in the first-half of the year, said Zimbabwe Textile Manufacturers’ Association (ZTMA) secretary-general Raymond Huni

The government is in the process of gazetting the SIs enforcing the rebates introduced by the Finance minister (Patrick Chinamasa). They hope that the SI would be gazetted in two weeks’ time and it’s only after that they will start realizing some changes.
