Danish investors see great potential of investment in Pakistani textile sector

A Danish trade delegation visit Pakistan to explore opportunities for investment and trade in various sectors but see great potential especially in textile and energy sectors of Pakistan.

There is great scope for Danish companies to establish their concerns in Pakistan with technology and land at low cost. Moreover, Pakistan has been given the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) status by the European Union making it more attractive for sourcing companies, especially in the textile sector.

EU being the largest market for Indian textile exports, Indian garment exporters have to face tough competition from neighbouring countries for export of readymade garments mainly due to zero duty access to European Union (EU) available to Bangladesh and inclusion of Pakistan in GSP plus by the EU. Apart from this, difference in wage rates, labour laws etc.
 

Demand for resurgence of closed units in Pakistan

A meeting was held between the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Suhail Bin Rasheed and textile entrepreneurs on Tuesday. The prime agenda of the meet was focused on the revival of closed units in the textile sector.
 
Former textile minister Mushtaq Ali Cheema also spoke while Azhar Majid, Mian Muhammad Latif, Farhan Latif and FCCI’s former president Muzammal Sultan were present.
 

Export of man made fabric to Pak and Egypt take a hit due to unrest

Surat, country's biggest man-made fibre hub for the first time due to continued political and civil crisis along with unresolved trade issues between India and Pakistan is seeing a major impact on their man made fabric (MMF) textiles exports, including fabrics to Pakistan has taken a hit and declined by 16 percent.
 
Exports to Egypt, too, have declined by more than 23 per cent due to the political crisis there. As compared to $219 million worth of export in 2012-13, India exported $167 million worth of MMF textiles in 2013-14 to Egypt.

Indian cotton exports look bright with sudden spurt in Pakistan’s cotton imports from India which is likely to see a rise mainly due to the recovery seen in rupee value and production of lower volumes of prime quality cotton produced in Pakistan this year. Experts are also of the opinion that Pakistani spinning mill owners prefer high quality Indian cotton compared with that from the US or Brazil, moreover the cost and transportation time in case of Indian cotton are much lower. Indian origin cotton is also receiving good export orders from Bangladesh as well.

Shandong Ruvi group to invest in Pakistani garment and textile sectors

The Chinese Group, Shandong Ruvi Group is set to invest up to $2 billion in garments and textile sectors in Punjab for which the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahabz Sharif has assured the Group to provide it all possible incentives and protection of investment anywhere in the country.

The agreement was reached during meeting which the delegation of Shandong Ruyi Group of China held with Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Wednesday. The delegation included Chairman of Group Yafu Qiu, Vice Chairman Ms Weiying Sun, Vice President Jerry Liu and other office-bearers.

Pakistan geared up to increase its textile exports by $3bn

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) doing its homework before committing to the government to raise the textile exports, which suffered in the past because of various reasons, including power shortage, high markup and limited market access.
According SM Tanveer, chairman of Aptma, Pakistan is all set to increase its textile exports by three billion dollars this year with textile sector having improved its production capacities over the last few years.
