COTTON Egypt Association, the organisation behind Egyptian Cotton™, has launched a further initiative to actively root out non-genuine goods from the supply chain.

The organization has begun naming and shaming manufacturers who fail their rigorous accreditation scheme through a new ‘Black List’ on their website.

They are also set to launch a worldwide task force of secret shoppers who will purchase products marked as Egyptian Cotton from retailers both instore and online, which will then be passed along for testing.

Thermoplastic polyester elastomer is consists of hard and soft segments. Hard segments include crystalline polybutylene terephthalate, while soft segments include amorphous polyethers. Thermoplastic polyester elastomers have flexibility of rubber, strength of plastic, and processibility of thermoplastics. They can be easily processed by convectional thermoplastic processes such as injection molding, calendaring, rotational molding, extrusion, and melt casting. Thermoplastic elastomer is used to manufacture parts of electrical devices, automobiles etc. that requires high temperature.

One of the ways researchers are making wearable technology less bogged down by electronic equipment and more user-friendly is by developing fabrics with electrical capability built in.

A research team led by Yingying Zhang, a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University in China, has made progress in this area with the development of a one-step 3D-printing technique that prints flexible electronic fibers onto fabrics and textiles.

Orian Rugs is formally introducing the Palmetto Living brand at the winter markets, starting at the Atlanta AmericasMart, Jan. 9-13. The official launch is set for Las Vegas Market, Jan. 27-31, at the company’s new and larger showroom in B-362.

Brandon Culpepper, chief revenue officer Orian Rugs said that, “It has very high ceilings, which is perfect for us to be able to showcase 8-by-11 sizes.”

The American start-up AlgiKnit makes fibers from kelp that can be spun into yarn. AlgiKnit offers a solution that could transform the highly polluting textile industry into a circular economy by using biomaterials. After having been used, this seaweed textile can serve as compost or animal feed. It also reduces the carbon footprint of the clothing industry, because no harmful fiber particles are lost during washing, such as is the case with polyester. The company is working on a prototype of a T-shirt and sneakers will be next.

Saudi Aramco collaborated with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and King Saud University, on separate projects to evaluate the performance and durability of FRP rebar and FRP sheets under the typical local environmental conditions specifically considering exposure to alkaline solutions (i.e., seawater and subkha), acidic solutions, thermal variation, the outdoors, and fire, a few years back.

The results of these studies confirmed the excellent potential for the use of these materials on new construction and for the strengthening or repair of existing structures.

To produce rayon the old fashioned way it needs chemically intense processing of wood pulp or plant fibers. The cellulose that’s extracted is treated with caustic soda, carbon disulfide, and sulfuric acid.
