India's apparel export's share in total exports fall from 51% in FY17 to 45% in FY19

The new government would have to rethink its policy on turning around India’s second-largest job provider, as the textile sector continues to gasp for growth. Three years after key regulatory and labour changes were put in place, India’s textile and apparel exports have declined from $38.60 billion in 2014 to $37.12 billion in 2018 while imports have increased from $5.85 billion to $ 7.31.

KITEX the global leader crosses 1000 crore revenue

KITEX, the global leader in the manufacturing and export of Infant Garments has crossed the magical figure of 1000 crore in total revenue. In the financial year of 2018-19, Kitex registered a total revenue of 1005 crore which comprise of Rs 630 crore by the listed entity KITEX Garments Limited and Rs 375 crore by KITEX Childrens Wear Limited. KITEX garments limited's standalone total revenue has reported a growth of 12.38 % in the fiscal.

For the year ended March 31, 2019:

- Total Revenue stood at Rs. 629.26 crore, y-o-y growth of 12.38%

Ethiopia encourages Indian garment exporters

Melat and Rahel, both 24 years of age, completed their studies last year in the east African country of Ethiopia and landed their first job in an Indian textile company. They are among the 700-odd young men and women employed at KPR Export Plc. at Makelle, Ethiopia. They were trained at KPR’s Coimbatore manufacturing plant.

Egyptian cotton exports hike

Egyptian cotton exports reached 579,300 metric Kantar during the second quarter (Q2) of the agricultural season 2018/19 that starts from December 2018 and ends in February 2019, up from 379,700 metric Kantar during the same period of the previous season, an increase of 52.6%, according to Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The CAPMAS explained in its 2019 quarterly bulletin of cotton that this increase is due to an increase in cotton production.

ITF urges retailers to source garments locally

Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) has appealed to all brands and retail chains operating in India to source their requirements from within the country instead of importing.

ITF’s appeal comes in the wake of a huge jump in import of readymade garments from Bangladesh.

Garment, textile export up by 9.8 per percent in Vietnam in 4 months

Vietnam gained over 9.4 billion U.S. dollars from exporting garments and textiles in the first four months of this year, up 9.8 percent year-on-year, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Wednesday.

In April alone, the country raked in 2.3 billion U.S. dollars from selling the products offshore, rising 7.1 percent.

Between January and April, largest importers of Vietnamese garments and textiles included the United States, Japan, the European Union and South Korea.

Every second, the equivalent of a truckload of fabric is thrown into a landfill or burned, leaching chemicals (such as dye) or non-biodegradable synthetic fabrics (such as polyester) into the ground. Every year, roughly USD 500 billion of barely worn clothing is discarded, even though manufacturing these items takes a tremendous toll on the environment – using coal and petroleum to create synthetic fibers and pesticides to grow natural ones, including cotton.
