Hangzhou-based Keer Group became the first Chinese textile maker to set up a subsidiary in the US 7-months ago hoping to help revive the textile industry in a community in the southeastern US state of South Carolina. Its US branch, the Keer America Corporation, is located in Lancaster County, South Carolina.

Its establishment has created a new series of job opportunities for people in the community, textile manufacturing had been a backbone industry in Lancaster County for decades.

The African Growth and Opportunities Act (Agoa), the new US duty free trade treaty which is likely to get extension for another 10 years in which about 40 African countries are eligible to take part to help the African textile and apparel exports to the United States grow by quadruple times, reaching $4 billion over the next decade, said a US official yesterday.

Furniture retailer Ikea India, the Indian subsidiary of Swedish furniture retailer Ikea AB plans to make investment of Rs.600 crore for setting up 2-3 outlets in the state of Maharashtra for which it has inked a pact with the Maharashtra government.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the legislature in a statement that the company will invest Rs 600 crore in Maharashtra to set up 2-3 outlets. Each outlet will create around 1000 jobs.

The Moroccan Association of Textile and Clothing (AMITH) is an important player in the Moroccan economy with more than 850 members has entered into a performance agreement as per the terms the textile industry to increase exports to 464 million and is also committed to create 90,000 jobs by 2020. The agreement was signed at the end of February.

The agreement was signed in the framework of the 2014 -2020 industrial Acceleration Plan, launched in April 2014. A total of 57 projects led by industry-leading companies were identified and the sector has also pledged to increase exports.

China has assured to end a costly stockpiling program that has artificially exaggerated cotton prices. The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) reluctant to accept the current weak market price, has urged the government to buy part of its crop and store it in state reserves, said two trade sources with knowledge of the issue.

XPCC, also known as the army corps, or 'bingtuan', has become a sort of state within a state and gained a dominant role in industries such as cotton, where it employs about 200,000 mainly Han Chinese on some of Xinjiang's best land.

The cluster for textiles proposed to be set up in Mysore to turn into reality as the land has been identified for the proposed cluster at Srirampura, on the outskirts of the city which falls within the Mysore Parliamentary constituency and with the Union minister of state for textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar inspecting the proposed site to set up the cluster early next week.

Centre has released Rs 28 crore for the textile mega cluster project in Mysore which is expected to boost investment in the region and create jobs.

BDL Group, a Bangladesh-based company, has decided to make investment in Ethiopia as there are great business and investment opportunities in the country. BDL group will be constructing a textile and garment factory in Mekele town of Ethiopia which will involve an investment to the tune of over 765 million Birr.

The Group has entered into an agreement with the town administration and received 68 hectares of land for the construction of the factory.
