H&M, Swedish fashion giant plans to explore Sub-Saharan Africa and other areas in the region for the textile industry. According to Chief executive Karl-Johan Persson, H&M sees huge potential for production in Sub-Saharan Africa for the textile industry.

After placing test order in last autumn, they have started with small-scale production in Ethiopia and will see how it goes. However, it looks interesting.

Cotton body lowers its output estimate for current season ending

The Cotton Association of India last month had estimated the cotton crop output at 378.75 lakh bales which has been lowered marginally to 376 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) for the current season ending in September.

Crop output in the central region including Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh is expected to increase 19 per cent to 218 lakh bales against 183 lakh bales last year. In the North Zone comprising Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, it will be down 15 per cent to 53 lakh bales (62 lakh bales).

he Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has hold responsible the jute industry of making misleading statements on the decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
the Jute Packaging Materials Act (JPMA) of 1987 which was then again revived by the CCEA on November 28 according to which it is mandatory for the government procuring agencies to pack the entire food grains and sugar in jute bags.

The CCEA had allowed use of plastic bags, replacing jute bags for packing 80% sugar and 10% food grains produced in the country in 2013-14.

South African wool market remains firm

The South African wool market caught up well at the first sale of the new year, Cape Wools said on Wednesday. It saw a 13.5% increase on the opening sale and is up almost 6.1% on the corresponding sale last year.

Company spokesperson Lizelle Delport said that Cape Wools' Merino indicator softened by a marginal 1.4% to close the day at R115.67/kg (clean).

The local market seemed to follow the international trend, as the Australian market had also decreased by 1.3%.
