The Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) is developing online directory-cum-website for marketing and promotion of Surti brand fabrics across the country. Around 10,000 wholesale traders from Surat textile markets have registered themselves with the online directory-cum-website for the first time.

There over 155 textile markets on the city's Ring Road and Salabatpura area housing over 55,000 textile shops. The daily turnover of the textile products is pegged at Rs 110 crore.

Cotton prices rose higher on Thursday as buying interest revives from leading spinners. The ginners who had been reluctant to dispose of their stocks readily obliged buyers at higher price calls. However, trading remained focused on quality lint as spinners were keen to build upon their stocks to meet expected higher export commitments owing to free-market access to European Union and larger orders booked in Heimtextil fair in Germany, brokers said.

Analysts believe that higher off-take of cotton from spinners earlier this season has now left little stock with ginners.

Brazil cotton producers had challenged U.S. cotton subsidies at the World Trade Organization and won the right to impose $830 million in retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods ranging from cars to milk powder. But sanctions were put on hold while Washington wrote a new farm law that was expected to eliminate the long-standing subsidies

Brazilian cotton producers visiting Washington were worried that the U.S. Congress would finish wrangling over farm policy in time to comply with international rules on cotton subsidies and avoid trade sanctions on U.S. exports to Brazil.
