Indian textile industry making a strong comeback as orders grow

Indian Textile has made a strong comeback after a long-drawn-out with the economic recovery, especially the US economy playing the key role and China's high cotton costs and rising labour rates. The textile manufacturers in India have started getting more orders. Also the comeback has been attributed to the pick-up in growth of some European regions. Moreover, rupee fall has improved the competitiveness of exporters vis-a-vis China, Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Karachi cotton market failed to witness any improvement in trading

Karachi cotton market failed to witness any improvement in trading activities due to which the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) went down to revise its cotton spot rate by Rs50 per maund to Rs6,900 per maund on Monday.

Traders exchanged a total of 5,000 bales (155 kilograms each) at Rs6,675 to Rs7,100 per maund (37.324 kilograms), the KCA reported.

The decline in the number of orders for purchase of cotton yarn from abroad forced local manufacturers of cotton yarn to stay on the sidelines of the market.

Thailand Textile Institute THTI’s director of technology promotion Chanchai Sirikasemlert, all set to displays 50 new developed silk products at the Premiere Vision 2014 to be held in Paris later this month. The 50 silk fabrics to be showcased will attempt to alter consumers' perceptions. With little resemblance to traditional Thai silk, these fabrics are 20-30% lighter, with prices 25-30% higher than traditional silk.

Wool Equities and Primary wool looking for a possible merger

The two wool businesses at opposite ends of the wool market are in discussion for a possible merger. Primary Wool Cooperative, a farmer-owned joint venture with wool broker Elders takes wool from farmers at the farm gate and on sells it, while Wool Equities manufactures wool for its grower shareholders, buys scoured wool and converts it into yarn and garments through its spinning, weaving and knitting operations.

According to Wool Equities Chairman Clifford Heath, there are enough synergies and opportunities for them to keep talking to see if they can pull the whole thing together.

Vardhman Textiles reported double rise in profit to Rs 175 cr for Dec quarter

Vardhman Textiles, leading textile firm due to cheaper input cost and increase in yarn exports to China for the quarter ending December 31 saw a rise in its net profit. The net profit saw a 109 per cent jump to Rs 175.24 crore.

The company had reported a net profit of Rs 83.62 crore in corresponding quarter of last fiscal.

The company’s net sales for the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal stood at Rs 1,415.98 crore, up 30.72 per cent over revenue clocked in corresponding period.

Weekly cotton auction to be held at Thuraiyur regulated market

Most cotton growers in the Tiruchi district have to go to Namakkal or other neighbouring districts hitherto to sell their produce through the agriculture marketing societies there or depend on traders, who charged a commission. Moreover they have to face delays in payment from traders and worries of being short-changed in weighing. To help farmers sell their produce without having to depend on intermediaries, the Tiruchi District Market Committee has introduced weekly cotton auction at the Thuraiyur Regulated Market.

Zimbabwe are look ahead to good harvest this season especially in areas such as Dande, Gokwe and Muzarabani with over 200 000 hectares of the cotton crop have been planted.

While according to the Zimbabwe National Farmers Union vice president Mr Garikayi Msika, they were anticipating more cotton to come from the traditional growing areas.

Although a number of farmers have overlooked cotton production due to low prices, farmers unions are convinced the shift will not do much to affect production.

U.S. farmers likely to opt for cotton plantings this year

The forecast is a turnaround for the U.S. cotton market and could boost global supplies of the fiber. Many U.S. cotton farmers last year opted to grow other crops such as corn and soybeans after cotton prices fell in 2011 and 2012. But this spring, U.S. farmers are set to plant more cotton than they did last year and reap a crop almost one-quarter larger than the previous harvest as farmers are hoping to benefit from prices that have gained more than 7% from a year ago, but the projected production increase from the world's biggest cotton exporter could turn around that price pick up.
