Erode markets witnessed buyers offering higher price for cotton

The Erode markets on Friday along with rise in arrivals also witnessed improvement in the Bt cotton prices by Rs.300 a quintal. Higher price were offered by buyers for cotton. However, prices continue to rule lower than last year.

Bt Cotton is cultivated in Kolathur, Kongapuram, Sathyamangalam, Gobichettipalayam, Anthiyur and Namakkal areas. Harvest of the crop, grown in fallow lands after rice harvest, has begun. Sale of cotton in Avinashi and Attur was encouraging, according to M S Subburaman, superintendent of Anthiyur Regulated Market Committe.

Pakistan government plan to set up industrial parks to boost exports

Pakistan government is working out all measures to take complete advantage of the GSP plus status given to them by European countries. One of measures taken is setting up industrial parks. The Pakistan government to promote country’s exports has planned to set up two Industrial Parks in Karachi and Lahore for textile and engineering equipments. Korangi Creek Industrial Park is being set up in Karachi while Rachna Industrial Park will be established at Sheikhupura Road, Lahore by National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company (NIPDMC).

USDA projects downward trend for next 2 years in cotton imports by China

The US Department of Agriculture in its long-term projection has stated that the cotton imports by China, the top grower and consumer of the fibre, will plunge for further two seasons, in 2014-15, it will plunge from 22% to 8.6m tonnes, and again the following season to 7.5m tonnes due to its huge inventories, but purchases will stage a recovery, leading "rapid" growth in world trade.

The decline, driven by a change in Chinese farm support is likely to end the country's record of stockpiling cotton at prices well above international market rates, will pull world trade lower next season.

Pak-Afghan Cotton Ginners Association to be established, the suggestion came up at the meeting held between the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, chairman Mukhta Ahmed Khan Baloch and Afghan ginners, on Saturday in Pakistan to discuss the possibilities and viabilities of cotton sowing and ginning industry.

The suggestion to establish was put forward during the meeting to which the Afghan delegation gave their approval. The delegation appreciated the PCGA role, stating that they would form Afghan Cotton Ginners Association (ACGA) immediately.

Indian cotton can fetch good price if export limits are removed

Indian growers can get good prices for their cotton as the global supply is tight provided the export limits are removed. Moreover the increasing demand cotton from domestic mills has strengthened the cotton prices in the last ten days. There is a 22.5 percent increase in prices to Rs.21,977 per candy. Indian cotton prices are on the rising trend but not if compared to this time with last year, the current prices are still down by 2 per cent.

Rajnagar mill once again facing closure

The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has been directed on Friday by the Gujarat high court to close down National Textile Corporation's Rajnagar Textile Mill near Idgah Chawky with immediate effect. The court said that the unit should not be permitted to restart production until it adheres to noise pollution norms.
