Surge in rupee value putting textile exporters in loss, demand for 10% rebate

The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) upset with the sudden surge in rupee value against dollar moreover it is continuing to raise disconcerting textile exporter’s business headway. They have urged the government to fix the rupee dollar parity to shield exporters from exchange losses and pay them 10% rebate against inventory looses incurred by them due to this.

The demand to pay 10% rebate will on business deals which the textile exporters had done during the period March-September 2013. As they get export payments after a gap of 90-120 days.

The project Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) has managed to reached around 7.5 lakh farmers who will work to produce almost one million tons of Better Cotton with project spending of €9.6 million for 2014.

Better Cotton farmers will use up to 20 percent less water, 67 percent less pesticides, and use more organic fertilizer, to make their crop more profitable.

An investors meeting was conducted by the committee of Better Cotton Fast Track Program (BCFTP), in Delhi, India, where 50 Better Cotton projects were approved across India, Pakistan, China, Mozambique and Mali.

Pakistan cotton market in quandary over rapid revaluation in exchange rate

Low cotton demand was witnessed over sudden change in the export parity with rapid revaluation in exchange rate by 12 percent. Moreover, the spinning industry has already built upon their cotton inventory at higher prices and only around half a million bales are currently held by ginners, their competitive edge has been totally scoured.

There are reports that around 60 to 70 spinning units have already closed down due to huge loss incurred against their export commitments made earlier at around Rs106 to a dollar.

Indonesian textile exports has reached $697.5 million in the first two months of this year as per the Trade Ministry statistics and is expected to speedy increase during this year with exports order flowing in from United States and larger orders will also be coming from the EU with the start of trade talks between the EU and Indonesia.

Indonesia and 28 EU members have planned to take up again talks on a thorough economic partnership agreement after several delays due to various purposes. The deal is expected to triple Indonesia’s textile exports within five years.

The government to improve the low prevailing efficiency of handloom sector plan to implement a revival, reform and restructuring package. Handloom sector with 27-28 lakh handloom household units and around 43 lakh handloom weavers working is able to contribute only 11% of the total cloth production, thus needs attention.

The Indian Textile Ministry has come up with a proposal aimed to reduce the debt overhang face by the handloom sector and help it grow.

Australian government delegation visited China to intensify relationship between Australian and Chinese wool industries, supported by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), the owner of The Woolmark Company.

Australa exports over 75 percent of its wool clip to China for processing. Earlier, the substantial quantity of this wool was processed and re-exported. But today, about a third of this wool stays within the Chinese market as the Chinese consumers and textile companies are getting well informed on the fibre's intrinsic natural benefits.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), the largest producer of polyester fibre and yarn in the world has commissioned its new ultra-modern Polyester Filament Yarn (PFY) facility which is most automated and eco-friendly plant in Silvassa.

With this RIL’s total PFY capacity including theMalaysian facilities, goes over 1.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). This has further upsurge their position as world’s largest producer of Polyster Fiber and Yarn, company said.
