Paraxylene imports in Turkey rose in Aug 2016

In August 2016, Turkey has imported around 12,938 metric tons of paraxylene, rose by 116% as compared to the corresponding period last year. As compared to last month imports declined by 6%. Turkey has imported around 13721 metric tons.

The increase was largely due to volumes inflow of 7,739 mt from Israel in August, whereas it had shipped none in the same month last year. Israel also retained the leading position among exporters in August, although it was largely unchanged from 7,732 mt in July.

Hyosung Corporation, a leading textile company in South Korea plans to invest US$27 million to expand spandex capacity by 5000 tons in Istanbul, Turkey amid increasing demand from European and Middle Eastern markets.

The company is planning to complete the expansion by H1 2017 and the capacity will be 25000 tons per year. By then, it would also be ready to open a new factory in Quzhou, China, with annual capacity of 16,000 tons. The company’s total global spandex output capacity would be ramped up to 221,000 tons next year.

Thailand and Turkey’s free-trade agreement negotiation set to kick off next week which have been postponed since January. Vietnam’s garments and textiles sector this year did not receive any major FDI projects in the face of previously two years of surging investment in the industry. Alone last year, the sector attracted up to $1 billion in FDI for three major projects including Hyosung Đồng Nai (Turkey), Polytex Far Eastern (Taiwan) and Worldon ViệtnNam (Hong Kong).

According to Nguyễn Hồng Giang, general secretary of ViệtnNam Cotton and Spinning Association, the year 2015 marked a record high for investment in the sector as investors wanted to take advantage of opportunities presented by the new FTAs.

The Pakistan government views Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Turkey as the key to revive the textile economy. Currently, Turkey has levied heavy duties on Pakistani textile products and FTA would not be possible without lifting or easing the rates of duties by the Turkish government.

The introduction of FTA would be helpful in earning foreign exchange reserves from the export of textile as well as other such as fruits and vegetables. It will also facilitate the provision of comparatively cheaper products to Turkish consumers.

Pakistan and Turkey to tap the massive potential of bolstering trade between the two countries will sign a free trade agreement framework on Tuesday, said Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Sadik Babur Girgin on Friday.

The current trade between the two countries stands at $600 million, but after signing the agreement it has the potential to touch $2 billion mark. The current balance of trade is in favour of Pakistan.

Turkish Economy Minister will visit Islamabad to sign the agreement between the two countries, which have very close cooperation in diverse fields.

Turkey after a more than year-long review, dealing a potential blow to the world's No 3 grower of natural fibre amid concerns Ankara could resort to anti-dumping duties as US cotton imports are damaging their domestic output.

The Economy Ministry in an interim investigative report stated that cotton imports originating from the United States have caused material damage to their local production.

Indonesia plans to achieve export target of US$3.87 billion to Turkey within the next four years by facilitating Turkish businesses as well as promoting domestic products, according to the Trade Ministry’s director general for national export development, Nus Nuzulia Ishak.

Indonesia would be facilitating potential Turkish buyers to come and connect them with local business to achieve the target. This would be carried out through buying missions and business forums, Nus said Monday.
