Textec Expo Bangladesh 2016, biggest and oldest international textile and apparel technology and machinery show organized by CEMS Global will be held from August 31, Meherun N Islam, MD of CEMS Global USA and Asia Pacific, made the announcement at a press conference in Dhaka yesterday.

Nearly 1050 exhibitors from over 23 countries along with important industry associations are participating in these exhibitions.

Indian textile industry to touch its potential of $500 billion by 2025 from the current level of $110 billion, Assocham, industry body advocated signing of FTAs with European Union countries (EU) and entering agreement with the US to offset the negative impact from theTrans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) accord on textile exports.

The chamber has stated that the estimated $500 billion potential consists of domestic sales of $315 billion and exports of $185 billion.
India’s garment exports to the US accounts for 20-35 percent.

Kids apparel market in India poised for significant growth

Kids apparel market in India to witness growth from the current level of Rs 72,000 crore to Rs 95,000 crore by 2016, according to a study conducted by industry body Assocham. It shows that the country's kids apparel market has been growing at a compounded annual growth rate ( CAGR) of about 20 per annum, and this trend is likely to continue at least till 2016.

The main driver for the growth in kids apparel market is the higher disposable income of the parents, peer pressure and brand consciousness among children.

TUFS likely to revive textile sector in India

A study by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) reveals that textile sector in India is under crises with Tamil Nadu accounted for 54 per cent of the non-operative mills, followed by Gujarat (16 per cent), Maharashtra (10 per cent), Punjab (four per cent) and Uttar Pradesh (three per cent). The study was based on a comparative analysis between FY00-01 and FY10-11 and an annual survey by the statistics and programme implementation ministry.

Uttar Pradesh textile industry is going through hard time with low productivity, lack of advanced technologies, lack of foreign investments, supply chain bottlenecks, lack of economies of scale, labour issues and challenges emerging from a fragmented industry and weak brand positioning have emerged key reasons for non-operation of textile units.

The number of non-operating textile units in UP rose from 30 to 182 between 2000-01 and 2010-11.
