Demand remains high for better grades of cotton

Trading activity at lint market remains selective on grade issue while some buyers made deals on slightly high price on shrinking better grades of lint that also kept general prices in green zone. Also some deals were made for second grade stuff on premium price.

Some of the leading buyers in Sindh and Punjab stations during trading session made forward deals on slightly higher price at around Rs6,725 per maund for consolidating inventories, floor brokers said.

Buyers bought better grades of lint on slightly higher price amid firm physical prices besides forward deals were made in anticipating increase in general prices and on fast depleting of better grades of lint during trading session on lint market. During the trading session, buyers also bought second grade of line at around Rs6,650 per maund for blending purpose.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) kept the spot rate at Rs 6,200 per maund.

Better grades of lint remained in demand on back of depleting stocks and demand for other grades of lint would not gain momentum, as buyers were eyeing influx of better cottonseed in the ginneries.

The ginning units remained confident on paucity of better cottonseed arrival that pushed general prices on firm footing, said floor brokers.

Cotton trading on Monday lacked buying interest and closed easy in line with the global trend. Cotton market was adversely affected by slow arrivals of phutti (seed cotton).

Moreover, a crisis-ridden textile industry is cautious and seems to be in no hurry to build up stock from the new cotton crop, they maintained.

Recent rains across the country also hampered cotton picking both in Sindh and Punjab which restricted the availability of cotton.

With steady physical prices trading at lint market remained grade selective, buyers made deals for better grades of lint on slightly higher price besides forward deals also changed hands.

Floor brokers said that during the trading session, buyers made deals for all grades besides deals for better and second grade of lint for blending purpose remained firm and deals changed hands at around Rs 6,600 per maund to Rs 6,700 per maund.

A slow pace of trading in the lint market witnessed as buyers made selective deals for second grade of lint, while forward deals were also made for better grades, traders said.

During the trading session, spinners and mills in Sindh and Punjab stations made deals for second grade lint, while sellers offered all grades of lint at around Rs 5,975 per maund to Rs 6,775 per maund in order to capitalise maximum returns on their proceeds.
