30% textile units do not have urinals

In textile processing units, where number of female workers are 20 against 680 males, they do not have separate toilets for females.The situation in the powerloom units is worse as only few number of industrial areas have toilets and urinals, while most do not have urinal facilities and workers are forced to defecate in the open.

The Open End Spinning mills plan to stop production from the end of this month with increase in prices of waste cotton, which is the main raw material for open end spinning mills.

According to the Open End Spinning Mills’ Association, the price of waste cotton has shot up to Rs 78 per kg this month. Four months ago, price of cotton waste was Rs.60 per kg when the price of cotton was Rs. 146 a kg.

Now, cotton prices have gone down to Rs. 112 a kg. But, the price of waste cotton has increased to Rs. 78 a kg mainly due to export of waste cotton.

The Union Textiles Minister informing about the measures taken by the government to provide relief to textile and powerloom industry said that the government has approved the "Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (A-TUFS)" for technology up-gradation of the textile industry with one time capital subsidy for eligible bench-marked machinery for a period of seven years from 2015-16 to 2021-22, in place of Revised Restructured Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (RRTUFS).

Trial operations expected to begin from August 26 at Malegaon textile cluster
