Turkmenistan harvest over 1.05 mn tons of raw cotton

Cotton is the main raw material for the textile industry of Turkmenistan. Moreover, it is an important export product. The country’s State News Agency reported that Turkmen farmers have fulfilled contractual obligations by having harvested over 1.05 million tons of raw cotton.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated farmers and cotton growers, machine operators and other workers of the agro-industrial complex on this occasion.

The Turkmen farmers are provided with fertilizers, seeds, chemicals and maintenance at discounted prices.

Rise in waste cotton price force open end spinners to stop production

The Open End Spinning mills plan to stop production from the end of this month with increase in prices of waste cotton, which is the main raw material for open end spinning mills.

According to the Open End Spinning Mills’ Association, the price of waste cotton has shot up to Rs 78 per kg this month. Four months ago, price of cotton waste was Rs.60 per kg when the price of cotton was Rs. 146 a kg.

Now, cotton prices have gone down to Rs. 112 a kg. But, the price of waste cotton has increased to Rs. 78 a kg mainly due to export of waste cotton.

Surat, India's largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub to be adversely affected by the decision of Government of India's finance ministry to impose definitive anti-dumping duty on purified terephthalic acid (PTA) imports from China, Iran, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia.

As per the government notification, the PTA imports from China, Iran, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia will attract duty ranging from $85.67 per tonne to $168.76 per tonne. The high import duty will prevent small spinners in Surat and other places in the country from importing PTA, main raw material for manufacturing of yarn.
