Ministry of Textiles assigns NITRA for Common Effluent Treatment Plant project

Union Textile Minister, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, joined the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) designed by NITRA at Ajrakhpur, Bhuj (Gujarat) on 18th March 2017.

The 150 KLD CETP project has been assigned to NITRA for implementation by Ministry of Textiles through Handicrafts Mega Cluster Mission (HMCM). NITRA designed a modern treatment scheme integrated with water reclamation for the CETP.

Power loom unit workers to soon have a standardized training system

It is estimated that for every 1,000 looms, 600 people are employed. Presently, the sector does not have a training system for the 1.2 lakh workers directly employed in the power loom units in the two districts Coimbatore and Tirupur, according to M. Senthil Kumar, chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association.

At CII Texcon 2015 organised by industry lobby Confederation of Indian Industry in Delhi on October 16, the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) under textiles ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Technological University of Tajikistan to give a boost to bilateral trade between the two countries.

The MoU is aimed at forging close links between the two countries to promote textile enterprises in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, along with allowing India's small and medium-sized enterprises to explore new markets in Central Asia.

A high-level meeting with Union textile minister Santosh Gangwar and Union minister of state for small and medium industries Giriraj Singh was held at New Delhi on Thursday to take important decisions related to expansion of Finley Mills at Achalpur, development of textile park at Nandgaon Peth MIDC, setting up of cotton processing units at taluka level and shifting of closed NTC mills in Mumbai to Vidarbha.

The meeting was a step in the direction of stopping farmers' suicides in Vidarbha and improving their financial condition.
