Power loom unit workers to soon have a standardized training system

It is estimated that for every 1,000 looms, 600 people are employed. Presently, the sector does not have a training system for the 1.2 lakh workers directly employed in the power loom units in the two districts Coimbatore and Tirupur, according to M. Senthil Kumar, chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association.

Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) to create awareness among garment and made-up segments of the textile sector organized a seminar on June 23 in Coimbatore on the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana scheme.

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana scheme provides financial assistance ranging from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 12,000 each for fresh trainees and Rs. 2,500 for the existing workers to get trained in different skills and to get certified.

The programme was held jointly with the Apparel, Made-ups, and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council.

Textile Sector Skill Council to produce skilled and efficient workers

The Textile Sector Skill Council supported by the Union Government has standardized the training syllabus for 56 jobs in spinning, weaving, knitting and processing. The syllabus has been prepared with inputs from the industry and it will be reviewed every year.
